Myth: Psoriasis is contagious.

Fact: Unlike warts, psoriasis is not contagious. It is not linked to cleanliness or hygiene (another common myth).


Myth: Psoriasis is curable.

Fact: Psoriasis is treatable, but not curable. It’s a chronic condition that will last a lifetime.


Myth: Psoriasis is preventable.

Fact: Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease in which patients are genetically predisposed. There are some risk factors for psoriasis that may be managed but not prevented. The factors include managing stress, weight, smoking and alcohol consumption.


Myth: Psoriasis is only a skin condition.

Fact: Psoriasis is a skin condition but often also involves the joints (arthritis). In addition, research has shown that psoriasis has been linked with cardiovascular disease, depression and anxiety.
