What is seborrheic dermatitis?
Seborrheic dermatitis is a common, chronic skin condition that causes pink, flaky patches on the scalp most commonly on the scalp, face and chest.
What causes seborrheic dermatitis?
The cause of seborrheic dermatitis is not fully understood but it is associated with an overgrowth of various yeasts. The yeast possibly cause an inflammatory reaction. People who have oily skin are more likely to develop seborrheic dermatitis. Stress, changes in season and lack of sleep can make seborrheic dermatitis worse.
What is treatment of seborrheic dermatitis?
Seborrheic dermatitis is treated with a variety of creams that can be applied to the affected areas. There are also washes that can be used weekly to prevent frequent re-flaring.
