Intense Pulsed Light Therapy

What is IPL Treatment?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, also known as photofacial or photorejuvenation, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that combats aging skin with very little downtime. The light energy is absorbed by the targeted areas, causing them to heat up and break down. Over time, the body’s natural healing process eliminates these damaged cells, revealing smoother, more evenly toned skin. IPL can target skin cells that contain excess pigment, which will rise to the surface and slough off after the procedure (usually 7-14 days).

IPL Treats conditions including:

  • Rosacea
  • Stretch marks
  • Wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Sun damage
  • Brown spots
  • Facial vessels
  • Uneven skin tones
  • Surgical Scars

Benefits of IPL Treatment:

  • Sun Damage Correction: IPL therapy effectively reduces the appearance of sun spots, freckles, and other signs of sun damage, restoring a more youthful complexion.
  • Pigmentation Reduction: IPL targets excess melanin in the skin, minimizing the appearance of pigmented lesions such as age spots and hyperpigmentation.
  • Redness Reduction: IPL can improve the appearance of redness and rosacea by targeting blood vessels and reducing vascular lesions.
  • Collagen Stimulation: IPL stimulates collagen production in the skin, resulting in improved skin texture, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, and a more youthful appearance.

Before and After

Preparing for your IPL Session

Some things you will be asked to avoid include tanning beds, sun exposure and medication that causes photosensitivity. You will also be asked to avoid sun exposure for two weeks prior to the treatment, as this treatment can be dangerous if performed on recently sun exposed skin.

Recovery and Results

  • Laser skin resurfacing is a nonsurgical procedure, so you can return home immediately after. Your skin may be red and tender for a few days following the treatment. Occasionally, treatment areas can temporarily become darker than before; however, rest assured this will shed after seven to fourteen days.
  • Avoid sun exposure, exercise, and swimming until your skin has completely healed. You will be given a complete list of post-treatment care instructions at your appointment.
