Itchy Skin

Health Library: Itchy Skin

What causes itchy skin?

Itchy skin can be caused by several things including eczema, poison ivy, contact dermatitis, dry skin, or even bed bugs.

How do I know what is causing my itchy skin?

It can often be difficult to tell what is causing your itchy skin on your own. If your itchy skin is not improving, come see one of our providers. We may need to perform some testing such as a skin scraping, skin biopsy, or blood work to see what is causing your itchy skin.

What might my dermatology provider do to treat my itchy skin?

Depending on what is causing your itchy skin, your dermatology provider may decide to prescribe a topical steroid, oral medication, or even an injectable medication. If you are experiencing itchy skin that is not improving with moisturizing, give us a call to make an appointment with one of our providers.
