If you’ve been following our blogs or social media, you know the importance of regular SPF use. However, there is more to a shining complexion than wearing your sunscreen. From washing your face to changing your diet, these simple lifestyle changes can play a major role in promoting skin health.

1. Cleanse and moisturize.

Any proper skincare routine begins with gentle cleansing. Follow up your wash (with gentle, non-abrasive cleansers) with moisturizer to lock in hydration and nourish your skin.

2. Hydrate from within.

Our bodies are about 60% water…so it’s only natural that water is essential for skin hydration and moisture balance. Per the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, men and women should drink 15.5 and 11.5 cups of liquid per day, respectively. Herbal teas, infused water and hydrating foods like fruits and vegetables can also contribute to skin hydration and a radiant complexion.

3. Eat a balanced diet.

It’s no secret healthier diets often promote healthier lives. But did you know nutrition also plays a significant role in skin health? Foods rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats provide essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids to support skin health and combat oxidative stress.

4. Achieve a healthy sleep schedule.

Getting quality sleep is crucial for your overall well-being. That includes your skin health! Aim for 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. After all, your sleeping hours are primetime for bodily repair and rejuvenation.

5. Practice healthy stress management.

Chronic stress can take a toll on your skin! The next time you need to relax and unwind, practice healthy stress management techniques such as exercise, meditation or engaging in hobbies to help manage stress and promote well-being.

6. And limit smoking and alcohol consumption.

Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can have detrimental effects on your skin. These unhealthy habits contribute to premature aging, reduce collagen production and impair the skin’s natural healing process.

7. Adopt a regular exercise routine.

Need inspiration to hit the gym? Regular physical activity boosts blood circulation, delivering essential nutrients to the skin and promoting a healthy complexion. Cleanse your skin after sweating to remove impurities and bacteria that can clog pores.

8. Perform routine skin examinations

Perform regular self-examinations to monitor your skin for any changes, new moles, or unusual spots. Early detection of suspicious skin growths or lesions is essential for healthy outcomes for dermatological patients.
